Macon-Bibb County, GA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 28-84(a) of the general code splits the one-hour cap by legacy jurisdiction: in the area formerly within the City of Macon, no bus, truck or other freight or passenger-carrying vehicle over one ton capacity may park or stand on a residential street or highway longer than one hour at a time, day or night, except while actively loading or unloading goods or passengers; in the area formerly unincorporated Bibb County, the same one-hour cap applies to vehicles over 10,000 pounds. Subsection (c) separately targets tankers hauling petroleum products or other flammable or explosive material: such a vehicle cannot park on a residential street at all unless it is making a delivery at that address or is disabled, and even then it must be removed within one hour; it also cannot travel a residential street unless that street is a state or federal highway, a direct connector to the vehicle's commercial destination, or a delivery is actually being made there.

Subsection (e) adds a stricter rule near schools: none of the covered vehicles may park or stand on a commercially zoned street within 500 feet of a public or private elementary or secondary school, except while actively loading or unloading. Subsection (d) treats any covered vehicle left in violation for 72 hours or more as presumed abandoned, subject to sheriff impoundment. Subsection (g) exempts work crews doing street repairs or emergency utility work. This provision is in Chapter 28, Article III of the general code.
