Macon-Bibb County, GA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

The general code lays out street parking rules section by section in Chapter 28, Article III, Division 1. Sec. 28-74 bars parking within ten feet of a fire hydrant or within twenty feet of the intersection of curblines (or, absent curblines, within ten feet of where roadway edges meet), except at an alley. Sec. 28-75 prohibits parking or stopping a vehicle in a position that prevents convenient movement of another vehicle already stopped. Sec. 28-76 bars parking in a manner that prevents convenient access to a private driveway or that puts a vehicle on a sidewalk.

Sec. 28-77 forbids parking alongside or opposite a street excavation or obstruction where doing so would obstruct traffic. Sec. 28-67 requires that where white parking lines are painted, vehicles must park entirely within the lines, and in residential sections all vehicles must park parallel to the curb unless the lines indicate otherwise. Sec. 28-82 caps continuous street parking countywide at 72 hours, after which the vehicle is subject to impoundment. Sec. 28-81 makes the vehicle's owner responsible for an illegal parking violation even when an agent or representative actually parked it.

These sections apply throughout Macon-Bibb County and are enforced by the sheriff's office and municipal court, distinct from the separate Sec. 28-84 rules that single out oversized commercial vehicles and trailers in residential zones.
