Macon-Bibb County, GA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Sec. 28-66 of the general code sets up five categories of curbside loading zone. Standard freight loading zones are marked with a red boundary stripe and signage; parking there is generally prohibited except that a clearly marked commercial vehicle may load or unload, but it can never continuously park, stop or stand in the zone longer than one hour. Passenger loading zones carry a yellow stripe and forbid any vehicle from parking except to expeditiously load or unload passengers and baggage, and the vehicle can never be left unattended by its driver in that zone.

Bus loading zones, also yellow-striped, are reserved for commercial passenger buses only, which likewise cannot be left unattended while loading or unloading. Taxicab or public drayage stands, yellow-striped as well, are reserved for licensed taxicabs or public drays; anything else parked there is a violation. No-parking zones marked with a yellow curbline or signage bar all parking, standing or stopping, except a Macon-Bibb County-licensed taxicab may stop for up to three minutes to pick up or drop off a passenger provided the motor keeps running, the driver stays close by, and the cab moves promptly if a law enforcement or fire officer asks.

Where signs post specific hours for a no-parking zone, the prohibition runs only during those posted hours. The county traffic engineer establishes and re-designates these zones as traffic conditions require and orders the signage, curb painting or boundary striping installed. This is a Chapter 28, Article III general-code provision, distinct from the land development resolution's off-street loading-berth standards for new construction.
