New Berlin, WI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 275-57 B(2) of the Code of Ordinances limits parking accessory to a residential use to vehicles the resident actually uses for personal, agricultural, or temporary guest purposes, and it states plainly that vehicles not in keeping with residential character are not permitted. No truck, piece of construction equipment, or other business or industrial vehicle can be parked on a residential or agricultural lot except in four narrow situations: a vehicle the Plan Commission has approved as part of a permitted home occupation, a personal pickup truck capped at one ton and 20 feet long with a standard bed and toolboxes that project no more than six inches beyond the cab, a passenger van capped at one ton and 20 feet, and agricultural tractors tied to an approved farm use.

Tow trucks, stake-body trucks and dump trucks cannot be parked on a residential lot under any of those exceptions. Even permitted trucks and vans must sit at least five feet from a side or rear lot line, park only on a hard all-weather driveway or turnaround, stay out of rights-of-way and vision-clearance triangles, and remain licensed, drivable and roadworthy. 5, R-5, Rd-1, Rm-1, B-1, B-2, B-3, B-5, O-1, O-2, I-1 and P-1 Districts, and bars construction vehicles and equipment outside of permitted construction periods.
