Sandy, UT Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sandy City Code § 14-8-1 makes it unlawful to leave, park, or station a commercial vehicle on any public street unless the Chief of Police grants written permission or the City issues a permit to work in the public way. The section defines commercial vehicle broadly: any vehicle used for a business or commercial purpose that has more than four wheels, has a total length (including any trailer, mobile home, or attached object) exceeding 19 feet, is commonly known as a semi-tractor or semi-tractor trailer, or is a camper or other unit enclosing housekeeping facilities.

Even where parking is otherwise permitted under § 14-7-3, a commercial vehicle may not be parked abutting or across the street from a parcel holding a public or private park, trail, golf course, school, church, or dwelling, and it cannot sit within 30 feet of any intersection, driveway, or other point of vehicular access to the street. Because the streets identified in an internal subsection are carved out as exceptions, the practical effect is that nearly every residential and mixed-use street in Sandy is off-limits to parked semis, box trucks, and camper-style commercial units.

The City treats a violation as a nuisance that it may summarily abate, either by impounding the offending vehicle or by citing the registered owner directly, and the rule was last amended by Ordinance No. 22-09 on October 18, 2022.
