In unincorporated Shelby County, no truck, truck trailer, tractor, or bus over 8,000 pounds may be parked or left unattended on a residential street except during active loading, and the Unified Development Code bars parking trucks or tractor-trailers on residential-zone lots.
Shelby County Code Section 24-191(b) makes it unlawful to park or leave unattended any truck, truck trailer, tractor, or bus with a declared maximum gross vehicle weight rating over 8,000 pounds on any residential street, except when actively loaded or unloaded, or while used for work or service on adjacent property. For private property, the Memphis and Shelby County Unified Development Code Section 2.7.10.B provides that parking of trucks, heavy equipment, or tractor-trailers is not allowed on any lot or street segment wholly or partially within a residential zone. Local commercial trucking vehicles must display the owner's or lessee's name and address under Section 24-365. Report violations to the county Mayor's Action Center.
An overweight truck, trailer, or bus on a residential street contrary to Section 24-191(b) may be impounded under Section 24-199 when obstructing traffic. Parking trucks or heavy equipment on a residential-zone lot violates UDC 2.7.10.B, enforced by Construction Code Enforcement.
