In unincorporated Shelby County, no recreational vehicle may be parked or left unattended on any residential street or in any residential district except while actively loading or unloading, and campers, boats, and trailers are barred entirely from residential streets under Chapter 24, Article V.
Shelby County Code Section 24-191(c) prohibits parking or leaving unattended any recreational vehicle on any residential street or in any residential district, except while actively being loaded or unloaded. Section 24-192 separately makes it unlawful to park any nonmotorized vehicle or equipment, such as campers, trailers, boats, or other recreational-type equipment, on any residential street; such items may be removed by the sheriff's department under Section 24-199. These county rules apply in unincorporated Shelby County; the City of Memphis and suburbs (Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Millington) enforce their own parking codes. On private residential lots, the Memphis and Shelby County Unified Development Code governs RV and boat storage; Section 24-192's ban is limited to the public street and right-of-way.
A recreational vehicle violating Section 24-191 may be removed when it obstructs traffic and impounded under Section 24-199. Nonmotorized campers, boats, or trailers on a residential street may likewise be impounded. Charges are $60.00 to tow plus $7.00 per day.
