Chapter 24, Article V bars parking in front of any public or private driveway on unincorporated Shelby County streets, and Section 24-193 makes it unlawful to store property in a public street, highway, or right-of-way; driveway sight lines must stay clear under the Unified Development Code.
Shelby County Code Section 24-184(a)(3) prohibits stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle in front of a public or private driveway. Section 24-193 defines storage as placing property in a public street, highway, or right-of-way so as to preclude its use, and makes it unlawful to use a public street or right-of-way for storing any item except where lawfully provided. The Memphis and Shelby County Unified Development Code Section 4.4.7 requires areas around all intersections, including driveway entrances, to be kept clear of sight obstructions (the vision triangle). Driveway and curb-cut connections onto county roads are handled through county permitting; check with Shelby County Public Works before adding or widening a driveway.
Blocking a driveway is ticketable under Section 24-197, and a blocking vehicle obstructing traffic may be impounded under Section 24-199. Storing property in the right-of-way violates Section 24-193. Sight obstructions in the vision triangle are enforced under UDC 4.4.7.
