Shelby County Code Chapter 24 defines a loading and unloading zone as street space designated by official signs, and Section 24-186 bars using a roadway to display, wash, grease, or repair a vehicle, while heavy trucks may stop on residential streets only during active loading.
Under Shelby County Code Section 24-1, a loading and unloading zone is any portion of the street designated by the county or state by official signs for vehicles actually loading or unloading freight or picking up and discharging passengers; a coach stop is space reserved for bus passenger loading. Section 24-186 prohibits standing or parking on a roadway for the principal purpose of displaying a vehicle for sale or rent, or washing, greasing, or repairing it, except emergency repairs. Section 24-191(b) allows an over-8,000-pound truck on a residential street only when actively loading, and Section 24-195 restricts bus loading to designated coach stops. Metered loading zones inside Memphis follow city rules.
Parking contrary to a posted loading sign is enforced under Sections 24-183 and 24-184, cited under Section 24-197. Misusing a roadway to display or repair a vehicle violates Section 24-186. A bus loading outside a coach stop violates Section 24-195.
