Southaven, MS Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 13-7(c)(4) of the zoning regulations is the residential zone rule. No commercial vehicle classified as a Class 3 or greater, and no trailer that exceeds sixteen (16) feet in length, can be parked or stored at any residence or on any street in residential zones, except for immediate service and delivery purposes. One vehicle is carved out of the ban: a heavy duty pickup that has neither a bed nor any equipment, excluding an antenna, extending more than twenty-four (24) inches above the roof of the cab. The code says a chart is incorporated for clarity, though the printed text does not reproduce it.

Two exceptions follow. Utility trucks of entities regulated by the Mississippi Public Service Commission and designated as the on-call emergency vehicle are exempt if parked on the residential property in the driveway on a hard surface at all times. A towing company on the Southaven Police Department wrecker rotation, approved by the Board of Aldermen, can park one (1) on-call wrecker per company in a residential zone. It must be a class A light duty wrecker for vehicles weighing seven thousand (7,000) pounds or less, a conventional wrecker with a GVWR of not less than ten thousand (10,000) pounds, or a rollback wrecker with a GVWR of not less than eleven thousand (11,000) pounds. It must stay in the driveway on a hard surface, never on the street or yard, and display the police-issued on-call permit in clear view. If three (3) or more contiguous or adjacent landowners petition the planning department, the owner has twenty-four (24) hours to remove it or face a citation not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) and towing.

The street rule is separate. Sec. 9-9 makes it unlawful to operate a commercial vehicle on city streets in residential areas and unlawful to park one on any street in a residential area, other than vehicles making delivery or picking up goods. Sec. 9-2 defines a commercial vehicle as any vehicle designed, maintained or used primarily for the transportation of property.
