Avondale, AZ Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Avondale treats curb markings as an official traffic-control function rather than something private property owners may do. Under Chapter 23 (Traffic) of the City Code, the City Traffic Engineer is authorized to place and maintain curb markings and appropriate signs to designate curb loading zones and to indicate the hours during which restrictions apply. These official markings, together with posted signs, establish where stopping, standing or parking is regulated or prohibited. Arizona Revised Statutes Section 28-873 reinforces that vehicles may not stop, stand or park where official signs prohibit it, and lists fixed no-parking locations such as within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant and within an intersection that exist regardless of whether a curb is painted. Because curb color and markings are an official traffic-control device, a resident should not paint a public curb to create their own parking restriction; requests for new red-curb or loading-zone markings should be directed to the city's Engineering Department / Traffic Engineer. On-street enforcement of curb-marked restrictions is handled by the Avondale Police Department.
