Avondale's Zoning Ordinance bars storing recreational vehicles, boats and trailers in the front yard of a residential lot. They may be stored in a side or rear yard only on a dust-proof surface and screened from street view by solid fencing or walls.
Section 28-162(e) of the Avondale Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 28, Article 8) governs where residents may keep RVs, boats and trailers. Within residential zoning districts these vehicles may not be stored in the front yard of a lot. They may be stored in the side or rear yard, but only on a dust-proof surface and only if screened from street view by solid (opaque) fencing or walls. The city's Code Compliance FAQ summarizes this rule and cites it as Section 802.e of the Zoning Ordinance, the same standard renumbered to 28-162(e) in the codified version. The solid-screening requirement is waived in the AG, RR-43 and RR-18 (agricultural and rural-residential) districts, where larger lots make screening unnecessary. Note that storage on the parking surface must still meet the paving standards of Section 28-163(a), which requires masonry, concrete or asphalt outside of the rural and agricultural districts. Code Compliance enforces these provisions through complaints, which can be filed via the AviWise app or by calling 623-333-2701.
Civil zoning violation enforced by the Avondale Code Compliance Division. Staff typically issues a notice of violation seeking voluntary compliance; unresolved cases can proceed to citation under the Zoning Ordinance.
