Avondale's Zoning Ordinance defines an oversized parking space for recreational vehicles as 17 feet wide by 45 feet long, larger than the standard 9.5-by-20-foot stall. Oversized RVs, boats and trailers at homes are subject to the front-yard storage ban.
Avondale addresses oversized vehicles in two ways. For site design, Section 28-165(a)(4) of the Zoning Ordinance establishes an oversized parking space dimension of seventeen (17) feet wide by forty-five (45) feet long for recreational vehicles, compared with the standard space minimum of 9.5 feet by 20 feet and a compact space of 8 feet by 18 feet. Oversized spaces are required at the zoning administrator's discretion for commercial developments serving traveling clientele. For homes, oversized recreational vehicles, boats and trailers fall under the residential storage rule in Section 28-162(e): they cannot be stored in the front yard and must be kept in a side or rear yard on a dust-proof surface, screened from street view by solid fencing or walls (screening is waived in the AG, RR-43 and RR-18 districts). Larger commercial trucks are separately capped by the 10,000-pound GVWR limit in Section 28-162(d). On public streets, oversized and heavy vehicles are also subject to Chapter 23 traffic provisions and state law. Code Compliance enforces the residential storage and screening standards.
Civil zoning violation enforced by Avondale Code Compliance when an oversized RV, boat or trailer is stored in violation of Section 28-162(e), addressed through notice of violation and citation if unresolved.
