Vineland, NJ Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Chapter 367 of the Vineland City Code, Fire Lanes, requires every curb within a designated fire lane to carry Type I Pure Drying Yellow Traffic Paint, the New Jersey Department of Transportation's road-and-bridge specification for durable yellow marking paint, per Section 367-4. Before painting, the property owner submits an approved plan and a physical color sample to the Fire Prevention Bureau, which reviews and signs off on both the paint and the layout; the Bureau also decides, case by case, whether hash-mark curb striping can substitute for the sign package described in Section 367-5.

That sign package sets its own specifications: posts must clear seven feet from grade, building-mounted signs six feet, and each 12-by-18-inch sign must read white and reflective with red reflective lettering, "NO PARKING" lettered 7.5 inches high and "FIRE LANE" five inches high. Once a fire lane is established, the property owner has 15 days from written notice to install or repair the required markings and signs. Parking, stopping or otherwise obstructing a marked fire lane, hydrant or Fire Department connection on public or private property is a separate violation under Section 367-1, enforced jointly by the Fire Prevention Bureau and the Vineland Police Department, which may have an offending vehicle towed and impounded at the owner's expense.

Fines escalate under Section 367-6: $35 for a first offense, $100 for a second, $250 for a third and $500 plus impoundment for a fourth. A person fined may appeal in writing to the City of Vineland Construction Board of Appeals within 15 days, with a $50 filing fee, stating the date of the violation and the grounds for the appeal.
