Residential vehicles in unincorporated Allen County may only be parked in a driveway or on an improved surface directly connected to it. Parking or storing vehicles on grass or unpaved ground is prohibited on any property.
The Allen County Zoning Ordinance requires that permitted residential vehicles be parked in a driveway or on an improved surface connected to the driveway (3-4-2-1(3)(A)(1)). Separately, section 3-4-7-5 provides that while paved-parking design standards do not apply to single and two-family homes, the parking, storage or display of motor vehicles on grass or other surfaces that are not paved or graveled is not permitted on any property. In practice a driveway must be an improved (paved or approved gravel) surface. This applies in the unincorporated county; incorporated cities set their own driveway standards.
Zoning enforcement by Fort Wayne-Allen County Planning; notice to correct followed by civil penalties for continued grass or unpaved parking.
