Idaho Falls, ID Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Idaho Falls City Code Sec. 9-4-1(B) makes it an infraction to park a vehicle 'within any portion of a public or private driveway or entrance to a public street,' which means a vehicle cannot block a driveway apron where it meets the street. The same section bars parking on a public sidewalk (Sec. 9-4-1(A)), so vehicles should not overhang the sidewalk crossing a driveway. For parking on the property itself, the City's Title 11 zoning ordinance provides that no storage is allowed within the front building setback line along a street, and that no yard or open space in any Residential Zone may be used to store junk, debris, or obsolete vehicles. Idaho Falls Code Enforcement also identifies parking on front lawns as a potential violation, so residents are generally expected to park on driveways and approved surfaces rather than on grass in the front yard. Code Enforcement notes that vehicles and RVs that are legally parked are not violations. Driveway and front-yard questions are handled by the Code Enforcement Division, while on-street obstructions are enforced as infractions by the Idaho Falls Police Department with fines set by Council resolution (Sec. 9-4-28).
