Mosinee, WI Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 42-712 of the City of Mosinee zoning code generally permits off-street parking in the yards of all districts except the front yards of single-family and multifamily residence districts, and otherwise requires parking to stay at least five feet from a side lot line, right-of-way line or rear lot line. The specific exception residents rely on daily is written into the same section: off-street parking in single-family and multifamily residence districts is permitted in the front yard on the driveway itself, even where the driveway sits closer than five feet to a side lot line, as long as the driveway conforms to the separate driveway standards of Section 42-713.

Off-street parking of vehicles accessory to a residential use is limited to vehicles actually used by residents and temporary guest parking, and single-family districts cap accessory parking at no more than five vehicles per dwelling unit; commercial vehicles or equipment other than automobiles, vans and pickup trucks used for commuting to work may not be parked on residential property except while delivering goods or services. Section 42-713 then sets the construction standard for every driveway installed, altered, changed, replaced or extended after the ordinance's effective date: it must be hard surfaced with either blacktop or cement, must be approved as to location by the zoning administrator, and must be at least 10 feet wide for one- and two-family dwellings and at least 18 feet wide for farmsteads.

Curb openings are capped at 25 feet at the roadway in residential districts, and lots under 100 feet wide are limited to a single driveway opening while wider lots may have two. Islands between driveway openings must be at least six feet wide. Together these two sections mean a Mosinee homeowner cannot park a vehicle on unpaved grass or gravel in the front yard; the only front-yard parking allowed is on a code-compliant, hard-surfaced driveway.
