Toledo, OH Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

1202(A) of the Zoning Code governs where residential parking can go. The baseline rule is simple: no parking space may sit within the front yard. The Code then carves out the driveway itself as the one exception, a detached house, attached house, or duplex may park on its driveway even though that driveway crosses the front yard. But the driveway can't swallow the whole yard: its paved area is capped at 40 percent of the front yard, and the driveway itself can't exceed 24 feet in width, regardless of how large the lot is.

Off-street parking spaces, as distinct from the driveway travel lane, are barred from any required landscape buffer under Chapter 1108. 1202(A)(4) adds a 10-foot setback from RS and RD residential districts for any off-street parking area. 0600 on residential garages for related dimensional limits. 07(a)(33), backs this up on the enforcement side: it's a standing/parking violation to park on any unpaved portion of a front or side lot in a residential district, or on an unpaved vacant lot, unless the Zoning Ordinance otherwise allows it, meaning gravel or grass parking outside a paved driveway is prohibited unless it's a lawful prior nonconforming use or has an approved variance.
