Bossier Parish, LA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Chapter 126's off-street truck loading subdivision requires every structure devoted to commerce, industry, manufacturing, storage, warehousing, offices or similar uses to provide loading space in the amount set by § 126-1045, unless the structure is exempt because it needs to provide fewer than five off-street parking spaces. Section 126-1042 splits spaces into two sizes: a large space needs at least 14 feet of overhead clearance, 12 feet of width and 50 feet of length, exclusive of access, maneuvering area and platform, while a small space needs at least ten feet of clearance, eight feet of width and 20 feet of length on the same terms.

Loading spaces must sit on the same building site as the structure they serve, though § 126-1044 lets two or more structures share a cooperatively established loading facility, and such a cooperative facility may sit up to 300 feet from the structure it serves under § 126-1042. Section 126-1045's table ties the number of required spaces to gross floor area: up to 12,500 square feet needs one small space, 12,501 to 25,000 square feet needs two small spaces, 25,001 to 40,000 square feet needs one large space, 40,001 to 100,000 square feet needs two large spaces, and every additional 80,000 square feet beyond 100,000 adds one more large space.

Section 126-1043 sets construction and operating standards for every loading facility: it must be graded for drainage and surfaced with concrete, asphaltic concrete or asphalt; kept free of weeds, dust, trash and debris; fitted with protective barriers sized so occupants of adjacent structures are not unreasonably disturbed, day or night, by truck movement; lit so the lighting neither disturbs adjacent residential occupants nor interferes with traffic; and provided with entrances and exits placed to minimize traffic congestion. Structures actually in use on the effective date of Ordinance No. 922 are grandfathered from the space count unless later enlarged, expanded or changed.
