Alameda has no blanket overnight parking ban for ordinary cars, but AMC 8-7.10 prohibits parking any large vehicle on any city street between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., and AMC 8-25.1 bars sleeping or living in campers and house cars on public ways from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Unlike some cities, Alameda does not impose a general overnight parking permit requirement on standard passenger cars - they may park overnight on public streets subject to the 72-hour limit and any posted restrictions. However, two city ordinances create overnight-specific bans. AMC 8-7.10 (Overnight Parking of Large Vehicles) makes it unlawful to park any large vehicle on any city street or property between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.; a large vehicle is defined as any vehicle greater than 80 inches in width, 20 feet in length, or 10,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Separately, AMC 8-25.1 makes it unlawful to use any house car, camper, trailer coach, camp car, or mobilehome for human habitation (sleeping, eating, or resting) on any street, park, beach, parking lot, alley, or public place between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., with limited exceptions for emergency repairs and for self-contained vehicles with approved sanitary facilities until parked more than 72 hours in a month. A violation of 8-25 is a misdemeanor under Section 1-5 of the Code. RVs, trailers, and boat trailers face the all-hours street ban of AMC 8-7.11 covered separately.
Citation or tow for a large vehicle parked on a city street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.; misdemeanor liability for occupying a camper or house car overnight (10 p.m.-6 a.m.) on a public way.
