Brookhaven, GA Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Brookhaven's rules on staying parked are split by where the vehicle sits. Section 17-209 lists purposes for which no one can park a vehicle, and item (4) is parking overnight on any city property. The same section bars displaying a vehicle for sale or solely for advertising on city property.

On public streets, section 17-220 sets a one hour limit that runs around the clock. Under subsection (a), no one can park or stand any bus, truck or other freight- or passenger-carrying vehicle in excess of one-half-ton capacity on any public street or highway for longer than one hour at any time during the day or night. Under subsection (c), the same one hour limit applies to any truck camper, camper trailer, motor home, boat, boat trailer or other recreational vehicle on any residential street or public place. Subsection (b) requires the driver to be actually present and in charge of any truck or bus with a body more than eight feet wide or ten feet high, and subsection (d) requires a dumpster permit from the public works department before a dumpster sits on a public street or highway.

City parking facilities have their own clock. Section 17-222 makes it unlawful to park any private vehicle in a city parking facility for more than 12 hours in any one day, and bars commercial or freight-carrying vehicles and trailers in those lots except by written permission of the facilities department.

Time-of-day bans come from signs. Under section 17-223, when a chapter provision, another ordinance or a city order prohibits parking during certain hours, no one can park during those hours at places indicated by official signs. Section 17-202 adds that no such regulation is effective until signs are in place. Neighborhoods can also seek residential permit parking, which lets permit holders park beyond posted time limits (17-256).
