Brookhaven, GA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Brookhaven Code § 27-901 regulates trailers and recreational vehicles on R-zoned lots. Subsection (a) prohibits parking and storage outside of an enclosed building in three areas: the front or street side yard, within ten feet of an interior side lot line, and within 20 feet of the rear lot line. Anything outside those three areas is the only outdoor space left for a camper or trailer, and a vehicle inside an enclosed building is not covered by the prohibition.

Subsection (b) covers the surface. Recreational vehicles and trailers can be parked, for the limited purpose of storage between travel, on unpaved surfaces including gravel or a similar material that prevents the tires from making direct contact with the earth, soil, sod or mud. The unpaved surface must also prevent tracking of earth, soil, sod or mud onto public streets when the vehicle or trailer is moved from the property.

Subsection (c) limits living in the vehicle: recreational vehicles cannot be occupied for human habitation for more than 14 consecutive days while parked in an R zoning district. Subsection (d) bars parking a recreational vehicle or trailer on an R-zoned lot that does not contain a permanent dwelling unit or other structure intended for permanent human habitation, so an empty lot cannot serve as a storage yard.

The rules sit in the zoning ordinance, so Community Development enforces them. Work trucks and other commercial motor vehicles on R-zoned lots are governed separately by § 27-900, and parking in front yards is covered by § 27-818.
