Rio Rancho, NM Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 12-6-6.5 of the Rio Rancho Municipal Code is titled 'All-Night Parking Prohibited.' Subsection (A) provides that no person shall park a vehicle on any street in a non-residential area for longer than 30 minutes between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. of any day, except physicians on emergency calls. Subsection (B) provides that no person shall park any vehicle, trailer, or tandem exceeding 7 feet in width and/or 7 feet in height on any street in a residential area from one-half hour after sundown to one-half hour before sunrise, unless engaged in loading or unloading passengers or freight. Together these mean ordinary passenger vehicles may generally park overnight on residential streets, but oversized vehicles (large RVs, box trucks, trailers) may not, and overnight parking in commercial/non-residential zones is sharply limited. In addition, where the city has erected signs prohibiting parking during certain hours under Section 12-6-6.12, those posted restrictions control. Residents who consider on-street parking a nuisance may also request site-specific restrictions through the city's Nuisance Parking Regulation Policy.
