Vallejo, CA Parking Rules: Preferential Parking Districts (2026)

VMC Section 8.27.010 gives the city council authority to designate an area within a specific geographic residential area of the city as a residential limited parking area, by either ordinance or resolution. The chapter doesn't set boundaries itself; each area is created neighborhood by neighborhood through a separate council action, and the city's Residential Limited Parking Program administers applications and permit sales for the designated zones. One example already codified elsewhere in Title 8: Section 8.20.250 designates the area surrounding Vallejo High School, as mapped in Resolution 97-282, as a residential limited parking area, with parking restricted as set forth therein.

Section 8.27.020 supplies the enforcement rule: it is unlawful to stand or park a motor vehicle inside a designated residential limited parking area, without a current permit for that specific area displayed in plain view, for longer than the time limitation the traffic engineer has established under Section 8.08.060. Section 8.08.060 authorizes the traffic engineer to use traffic-engineering methods to set time limit parking restrictions citywide, including inside these residential zones, so the exact number of permit-free minutes is fixed area by area rather than by a single citywide number in the chapter itself. A resident who obtains and displays a valid permit for their designated zone is exempt from that engineer-set time limit; a vehicle without one is not.
