Section 72.011, first adopted by Ord. 3564 in 1968 and still on the books today, flatly bars parking or storing an automobile trailer, boat trailer, bus camper or house trailer on any street or alley in the City of Hammond, Indiana. The rule is written broadly: it covers not just the owner who parks the trailer but anyone who "permits" it to be parked or stored on a public street or alley, so a homeowner who lets a friend's boat trailer sit at the curb can be cited just as readily as the trailer's owner.

Because the text is limited to streets and alleys, it does not by its own terms reach a trailer kept entirely within a private driveway or yard; residents whose only option is off-street storage on their own lot are outside this particular section. The Hammond Police Department enforces the street/alley ban, and a violation is one of the offenses the general parking-penalty schedule specifically lists: under § 72.999(B), "parking or storing trailers" draws a $50 fine that doubles to $100 if the ticket is not paid within 60 days. A cited owner who wants to contest the ticket must request a court date from the city's Law Department within that same 60-day period, after which the fine can be increased by the court.
