Ridgewood, NJ Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Under Village of Ridgewood Code Article X, § 190-124E(1), outdoor storage in the R-125, R-110, R-1, R-2 and R-3 Residential Zones (and other zones with a legal one- or two-family dwelling) is an accessory use limited to private camping trailers, boats and boat trailers, garden tractors and implements, automobiles, motorcycles and motorbikes. Storage is confined to the side and rear yard, capped at six feet in height, and must be screened by a fence or hedge so it is not visible from an abutting residential property or street; anything stored in the side yard cannot sit closer to the side lot line than the principal building's own side-yard setback.

Items over six feet, plus any pickup or panel truck, mobile home, bus, commercial van or recreation vehicle, must be kept in an enclosed garage, except that a recreational vehicle may be parked outside a garage for up to five separate or consecutive days per calendar year. Separately, § 190-124E(2) prohibits outdoor storage entirely outside a legal one- or two-family use, and § 190-124E(6)-(7) bar using any stored vehicle, RV, boat or trailer for sleeping, bathing, toilet functions, food preparation, or general item storage. Day-to-day passenger vehicles with side windows may still be parked in the driveway, but trucks must be garaged overnight.
