Salinas, CA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Sec. 190 governs recreational vehicle, boat, and trailer parking in Salinas's R, NU, CO/R, P, OS, and PS districts. 60 sets the baseline: heavy equipment, inoperable vehicles, and other prohibited vehicles cannot be parked or stored in any yard, but recreational vehicles, defined broadly to include motor homes, travel trailers, boats and boat trailers, and similar equipment, are allowed in rear and interior side yards and disallowed in front, corner side, and street-facing positions except as temporary parking. Subsection (d) spells out the limits: temporary parking or storage of a recreational vehicle anywhere is capped at 24 hours in a seven-day period, but front-yard or corner-side-yard parking gets a narrower 48-hour window in a seven-day period strictly for loading and unloading, and the vehicle must sit on a paved driveway that meets the Sec.

450 driveway standards and may never block a public sidewalk. Longer-term storage is only permitted in a rear or interior side yard, and even there the RV must be screened from public streets and neighboring lots by a solid fence or wall at least six feet tall, must not block emergency access to any structure, and cannot be junked or derelict, meaning repair costs that exceed 25% of the vehicle's replacement value. Living or sleeping in a stored recreational vehicle is prohibited except during an officially declared state of emergency, when occupancy is allowed on a public street or any lot. A guest's RV may occupy a residential lot for up to 72 hours per calendar month under the same driveway and sidewalk rules.
