York County, VA Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Section 15-48(c)(2)c defines 'Recreational Vehicle' as a device, self-propelled or not, designed or used for transporting persons or property in connection with recreation rather than mere transportation, with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or more or a length of 21 feet or more including trailers or attachments, expressly including motor homes, travel trailers, campers, boats and boat trailers. Section 15-48(c)(3) bars parking a covered recreational vehicle, along with commercial and passenger-carrying vehicles, on any road, highway or street in the state secondary system within a list of more than 30 named subdivisions and areas, running from Skimino Farms through the Greensprings vicinity to Yorktown itself, described as the area bounded by the York River, the Coast Guard Reserve Training Center, Route 238, the Colonial Parkway and Yorktown Creek, plus dozens of other named residential sections such as Tabb Meadows, Sherwood Forest and Woods of Tabb.

As with the commercial-vehicle ban, the restriction reaches only the state secondary highway system, not privately owned streets or property owners' association streets in those same areas, and applies only on the residentially-zoned side where a listed street borders a commercial district. Section 15-48(f) requires the county administrator to post 'No Parking' signs meeting Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards in the restricted areas.
