York County, VA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 15-48(a) of the York County Code lists specific secondary-system roads, mostly historic Yorktown streets such as Comte de Grasse, Read, Ballard, Buckner and Water Streets, where parking is banned outright, plus time-windowed bans like Glen Laurel Way (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. weekdays) and Hubbard Lane during morning and afternoon school-rush windows. Subsection (d) backstops all of this with a general rule: no one may park in violation of any parking regulatory sign erected on county-owned or leased property, on any state secondary highway in the county, or on a private road treated as a highway for law enforcement under section 15-6.

That general prohibition is adopted under Virginia Code §§ 46.2-1220 through 46.2-1222, the state authority letting localities regulate on-street parking. A citation can be resolved by a $10 uncontested waiver payment to the county treasurer within five days under section 15-43, though disability-space and section 15-48(a)-(c) violations carry a $50 waiver fee instead. Unpaid citations proceed to a summons under section 15-44, with prima facie proof under section 15-45 that the registered owner was the one who parked the vehicle. Enforcement runs through the sheriff's office and any special police officer or uniformed county personnel assigned to parking regulation.
