During a declared snow emergency, the Town of Babylon bans parking on residential streets and on the even side of business-district streets, and requires snow tires or chains, so plows can clear roads across the unincorporated hamlets.

The following provisions of this article shall be effective during a declared snow emergency:

A. Snow tires. All motor vehicles being operated on any streets must be equipped with snow tires and/or chains.

B. Parking in residential districts. No motor vehicle shall be parked on any residential street.

C. Parking in business districts. No motor vehicle shall be parked on the even side of any street in a business district.

§ TC-3-13. Snow clearance. Every owner of a business or multiple dwelling shall be responsible for clearing snow from said premises so as to allow access to the building by fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.

§ TC-3-14. Disposal of snow. No person shall deposit snow on any street.

Full Breakdown

Town of Babylon Traffic Code §§ TC-3-12 and TC-3-13 take effect once the town declares a snow emergency. Every vehicle operated on town streets must carry snow tires or chains. No motor vehicle may be parked on any residential street, and in business districts parking is barred on the even-numbered side of the street. Separately, owners of businesses and multiple dwellings must clear snow from their own premises so fire trucks and other emergency vehicles can reach the building, and dumping snow on any street is barred under § TC-3-14. These rules apply once the Town Board declares an emergency: they are not a year-round alternate-side schedule.

Violations & Fines

Parking on a residential street, or on the even-numbered side of a business-district street, during a declared snow emergency, operating without snow tires or chains, or dumping snow on a street can draw a ticket and towing.
