Detroit, MI Parking Rules: Snow Removal Parking Rules (2026)

Detroit City Code § 46-2-41 triggers an automatic parking ban on snow emergency routes whenever snow or ice reaches a depth of two inches or more between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., taking effect one hour after that threshold is hit. The Coordinator can also declare a prohibition ahead of or during a storm based on falling snow, sleet, freezing rain, or a National Weather Service forecast. The ban lifts block by block once a stretch between two intersections is clear curb to curb, or when the Coordinator announces termination. Second priority streets get their own alternating even/odd-address overnight ban under § 46-2-42 once declared. The Department of Public Works posts snow emergency route signage under § 46-2-47.
