Ankeny, IA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Ankeny Code of Ordinances § 69.07 lists the specific places where no one may stop, stand or park a vehicle within the City, except when necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or when directed by a peace officer or traffic control device. Beyond the general ban on parking across a sidewalk, the section separately prohibits stopping within 5 feet of the closest side of a public or private driveway, so a car does not have to touch the driveway itself to violate the rule. It also bans parking within an intersection or within 20 feet of an intersection of any street or alley, and within five feet of a fire hydrant, both keyed to keeping sightlines and emergency access clear.

Other subsections of the same section separately restrict parking within 20 feet of a mailbox equipped for vehicle mail deposit, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing, and in front of theaters, hospitals, nursing homes, churches or other large-assembly buildings for 50 feet. Section 69.01 gives the City authority to designate additional restricted areas by posted traffic control device, and § 69.02 separately requires any vehicle parked at a curb to sit parallel to it, headed in the direction of travel, with its wheels within 18 inches of the curb.

Under § 70.03, an uncontested violation of any of these parking restrictions is charged through a simple $15 notice of fine payable to the Ankeny City Clerk, rising to $40 for snow-ordinance or narrow-street winter violations and $100 for misuse of a disabled parking permit.
