Kauai County, HI Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 16-10.1(a) bans stopping on the roadway side of a car already parked at the curb, on sidewalks, in intersections, on crosswalks, within 30 feet of a safety zone unless signed otherwise, alongside street excavation, on bridges or in tunnels, on railroad tracks, wherever signs prohibit it, on curves with less than 500 feet of visibility, and on hill crests. Subsection (b) bars standing or parking, except a momentary passenger drop-off, within six feet of any driveway, ten feet of a fire hydrant, twenty feet of an intersection crosswalk, six feet of a mid-block crosswalk, thirty feet of a flashing signal or stop sign, and twenty feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side when posted).

Subsection (c) bars parking anywhere signs prohibit it, except while actually loading or unloading. Kaua'i's Traffic Code separately bans wrong-way parking: § 16-10.2 makes it unlawful to drive or park facing oncoming traffic on the opposite or left lane, except in an emergency, and § 16-10.5 requires at least ten feet of open travel lane and forbids blocking a mailbox. A police officer who finds a car parked illegally may move it, or make the driver move it, off the traveled way under § 16-9.2, and the registered owner's license plate is treated as prima facie evidence of who parked it there under § 16-9.5.
