Montgomery, AL Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

City Code Sec. 27-383 states the core on-street rule: no one may park a vehicle upon a street in a manner or under conditions that block the free movement of vehicular traffic in any lane. Sec. 27-384 extends the same obstruction ban to alleys and adds a driveway protection: no one may stop, stand or park within an alley in a position that blocks the driveway entrance to abutting property. On one-way streets, Sec. 27-390 lets the traffic engineer post signs on the left-hand side prohibiting standing or parking there; once posted, parking on that left side is unlawful, effectively Montgomery's wrong-way parking ban on one-way corridors.

The companion rule at Sec. 27-391 covers divided one-way roadways: on a highway with two or more separate roadways restricted to one-direction travel, no one may stand or park on the left-hand side unless the traffic engineer has posted signs permitting it. None of these sections carries its own numeric fine; enforcement runs through the general Code penalty and, for repeat offenders, the citywide boot ordinance. A vehicle carrying five or more delinquent unpaid parking tickets can be immobilized for up to 24 hours under Sec.

00 administrative fee plus payment of every outstanding fine. Montgomery also authorizes the traffic engineer to mark tow-away zones under Sec. 27-386, and a vehicle left in violation of a posted sign in one of those zones can be towed at the owner's expense to a city-designated storage lot.
