New Britain enforces a tiered fine schedule for on-street parking violations under Sec. 15-73 of the Code of Ordinances, covering city streets, city-owned garages and off-street lots. The lowest tier, thirty dollars, applies to overtime parking beyond a posted time limit, meter violations, parking in the opposite direction of traffic (facing oncoming vehicles), and parking more than twelve inches from the curb. A sixty-dollar tier covers parking within ten feet of a marked crosswalk, fifteen feet of an intersection, twenty-five feet of a stop sign, in a restricted or reserved area, in a loading zone, in a manner that creates a traffic hazard, obstructing a driveway, or parking between the curb and sidewalk.
