Section 28-81 lists nineteen specific places where standing a vehicle is unlawful at any time in the Village of Palatine, unless necessary to avoid a traffic conflict or under a police officer's direction. Among them: in any intersection or crosswalk, on a bridge or viaduct, within 30 feet of a safety zone or traffic signal, within 20 feet of any intersection, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within five feet of a driveway sideline or anywhere the vehicle would block a driveway, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing, on any sidewalk (except overnight residential driveway overhang between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.), on any parkway, or wherever official no-parking signs are posted.

Section 28-82 governs how a legally parked vehicle must sit: except on a one-way street where angle parking is specifically authorized, a vehicle must stand parallel to the curb with its two right wheels within 12 inches of the curb line, and it is unlawful to park with the vehicle's left side next to the curb. Section 28-83 separately bars parking outside the boundaries of a marked parking space where markings exist. Vehicles found parked in violation of §§ 28-81 through 28-89 or § 28-105 may be towed under § 28-90, with the owner responsible for the towing cost plus the underlying parking fine before the vehicle is released.
