Most Somerville streets are resident-permit zones. Non-residents are limited to 2 hours on posted blocks from 8 AM to 8 PM daily including weekends.
Somerville operates one of the most restrictive residential parking programs in Greater Boston. Nearly every residential street is signed Resident Parking Only, typically 2 hours for non-permitted vehicles between 8 AM and 8 PM, enforced seven days a week. Permits are issued by the Traffic and Parking Department and are tied to a vehicle with a Somerville address on the registration; visitor passes are available online for limited daily use. Meters run in Davis, Union, and Ball Squares and along commercial corridors. Street cleaning suspends parking on posted days from April through December, and tickets are issued starting at the top of the posted hour. Overnight parking without a resident sticker is prohibited citywide under the Traffic Commission rules, and repeat offenders may be booted or towed to the Pat's Towing impound lot.
