RVs, boats, and trailers may not be parked on Somerville streets overnight. Storage on private property must be behind the front building line and screened.
Somerville's Traffic Commission rules prohibit parking any recreational vehicle, camper, boat, utility trailer, or similar non-passenger vehicle on a public street for more than one hour unless actively loading or unloading. Overnight street storage is never allowed, and violators are tagged and towed. On private residential property, the Somerville Zoning Ordinance requires such vehicles to be stored behind the front building line (generally in a side or rear yard), fully on a paved or gravel surface, and not blocking required parking or landscaping. Only one recreational vehicle per lot is permitted in most residence districts, and it may not be occupied as a dwelling. Commercial rental of RV storage in residential zones is prohibited. Waterfront and boat trailer storage must comply with the same zoning setbacks.
