Louisville, KY Public Conduct: Jaywalking (2026)

Louisville Metro Code § 71.10(A) bars pedestrians from crossing an arterial roadway anywhere except a marked crosswalk. Where an arterial has no crosswalk, crossing is legal only at an intersection with a traffic-control signal or other crossing device; if neither exists, crossing is legal only at an intersection. The rule also bans standing on a median or gore except while actively crossing, and covers the first 200 feet of any street that intersects an arterial. The ordinance lists the specific streets classified as 'arterial roadways' for enforcement purposes, and it applies only within Louisville Metro's jurisdiction, not inside the county's separate home rule cities unless they've adopted an equivalent rule.
