Code § 32-1102 requires any pedestrian crossing outside a marked crosswalk, or an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, to yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on the roadway. Between adjacent intersections where traffic signals are operating, pedestrians may not cross anywhere except in a marked crosswalk: that stretch is a flat bar, not just a yield rule. Diagonal crossing through an intersection is also barred unless a traffic control device authorizes it. Elsewhere, pedestrians must cross at right angles or by the shortest route to the opposite curb unless a device says otherwise.
