Full Breakdown

City Code § 32-305 bans skateboarding and roller-skating on any roadway citywide. Inside the Central Business District, bounded by Academy, Broad, Front and College Streets, the ban also covers sidewalks, the courthouse inner circle, the City Center, the civic plaza and the plaza over the City Hall parking garage. Private lot owners in the district can extend the ban to their own lots by writing the Mayor. Elsewhere, sidewalk skating stays legal unless the City Manager or City Engineer posts signs restricting it; riders must yield to crossing vehicles and pedestrians, and only one person may ride a skateboard at a time.

Violations & Fines

Skating where § 32-305 forbids it is a misdemeanor under Code § 32-301's traffic-chapter rule, punishable by the City's general civil penalty, Code § 1-8.
