Littleton, CO Public Conduct: Public Urination (2026)

Section 6-4-79 of the Littleton City Code prohibits urinating or defecating 'in the public view,' and the section reaches both public and private property: a person violates it by relieving themselves where others can see, regardless of who owns the land underneath them. The only exception written into the section is for a room or area actually designated and equipped for urination or defecation, meaning a restroom or similarly designed facility; there is no exception for emergencies, intoxication, or the absence of a nearby restroom.

The offense sits in Chapter 4 of Title 6, the city's general public-offenses chapter, alongside disorderly conduct, public nudity and prostitution, and was adopted by Ordinance No. 14, Series of 2012, with no amendments since. Because the section sets no fine or jail term of its own, a conviction is punished under the city's general penalty at Section 1-4-1, the same schedule governing most Title 6 misdemeanors: a fine of up to $2,650, up to 364 days in jail, up to a year of probation, or a combination the court finds appropriate, with restitution available where relevant.

Littleton Municipal Court has jurisdiction over the charge, and because the city's own code, not a county ordinance, governs conduct inside the city, the section applies uniformly across the parts of Littleton that sit in Arapahoe, Jefferson and Douglas Counties.
