Auburn, WA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Chapter 10.58 ACC regulates skateboards, roller skates and coasters citywide. ACC 10.58.010 defines a skateboard as a footboard on four or more wheels typically ridden standing, kneeling or lying down, and defines a coaster as a footboard on two or more wheels steered by an upright handle; roller skates cover shoe-mounted wheels used upright or kneeling. ACC 10.58.020 requires anyone riding one of these devices to obey all official traffic-control signals, signs and devices that apply to vehicles, unless a police officer directs otherwise, and ACC 10.58.030 requires riders to operate with reasonable regard for their own safety and everyone else's, barring the negligent operation defined in ACC 10.58.010(D) as riding in a way likely to endanger any person or property.

The central business district ban in ACC 10.58.040(A) covers skateboards and roller skates on any street, alley, sidewalk or publicly owned parking lot within the district described in ACC 18.06.010(A)(11) and mapped in an exhibit attached to the ordinance. ACC 10.58.040(B) separately bars roller skates from every roadway, parking lot and sidewalk at Les Gove Park except designated pathways, while ACC 10.58.040(C) bars skateboards from every roadway, parking lot, sidewalk or pathway at Les Gove Park outside areas specifically marked for skateboard use.
