Bonita Springs, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

The skateboard rule in the Bonita Springs Code appears twice in section 28-41 of the parks article. Subsection (b), titled Confined to roads, says no person shall ride an all terrain vehicle (ATV), bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or roller blades/skates in any area other than an area designated for that purpose. Subsection (h) repeats the point for the non-motorized wheeled toys: roller blades, roller skates, scooters, and skateboards must be used only in areas specifically designated for that purpose.

The effect is a designation requirement. A park visitor cannot skate or board on park paths, plazas, parking areas or fields simply because no sign forbids it; the area has to be designated for the activity. The code text does not list which parks or areas are designated, so the signs and markings at each park control.

The wheeled-device rules around it differ by device. Bicycles must be ridden in a safe manner as directed by F.S. ch. 316, no one can carry a second rider on a one-person bicycle, and bicycles must be left in a rack when one is provided. Mountain biking is limited to areas specifically designated for the sport. Human transport devices such as segways can be used in the same manner as bicycles. Golf carts can be used only in designated areas and on the city park road system if the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less, and no one under the age of 14 can operate one.

This code volume contains no separate skateboard rule for streets, sidewalks or business districts. The regulation it prints covers city parks, and the county sheriff's office or city code enforcement carries out enforcement there.
