Davis, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

050 lets an owner of 'publicly used private property,' meaning privately owned property held open to the public such as shopping centers, offices, banks, hotels, churches, hospitals and restaurants, bar skateboarding by posting signs at every entrance, but only with prior written approval from the city manager or designee, who must find that skateboard use would endanger pedestrian traffic or public safety. The required sign must be metal, at least eighteen by twenty-four inches, with red letters at least one inch tall on a white background, reading 'NO USE OR RIDING OF SKATEBOARDS ON THIS PROPERTY.

010, except to cross the sidewalk entering or leaving adjacent property, and no one may ride, use or operate a skateboard on any public right-of-way, roadway, pavement, parking lot or sidewalk within a specifically bounded downtown area running along the westernmost Southern Pacific railroad track near the 2nd Street and G Street rail and bus depot area. Outside those two automatic zones, the city traffic engineer may erect signs closing additional sidewalks or roadways to bicycle riding (a companion rule in the same section covers bicycles specifically), but only after the safety advisory commission finds the riding would endanger pedestrian traffic, public safety, or a city property right. The section exempts Davis police officers engaged in official duties.
