Kyle, TX Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Kyle's parks chapter treats skateboards the same way it treats bicycles and roller skates: confined to the roads and paths built for wheeled traffic. Section 26-84, titled 'Prohibited activities,' lists conduct barred in every city park, and item (2) states that it is unlawful to operate a bicycle, skateboard, roller skates, or any other mode of transportation, motorized or nonmotorized, in any city park upon any surface other than a vehicular road or path designed for that purpose, and separately bars operating any such mode of transportation with its wheels or tires off those surfaces at all.

Riders on an approved surface must operate their equipment with reasonable regard for the safety of others, signal turns, and pass to the right of vehicles they are overtaking or meeting, and anyone whose ride would require an operator's license on public streets needs that same license to use it on park roads. A pedestrian pushing a bicycle by hand over grass or a wooded trail reserved for pedestrian use is exempted from the riding restriction. Enforcement runs through Section 26-89, which authorizes both the parks department's designated park attendant and any city police officer to issue warnings and citations for violating park rules, and Section 26-88 lets the city require a violator who ignores a warning to leave the park, its recreation areas, or its pools.

Chapter 26 sets no unique dollar fine of its own for a skateboarding violation, so it falls back on the Code's general penalty in Section 1-14, capped at $500, with repeated conduct risking a longer-term loss of park privileges. A closely related restriction at the city's historic train depot grounds, Section 38-274(8), separately bars riding a skateboard there except on the roads or paths designed for it.
