Lewisville, TX Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 8-3 of the Lewisville Code of Ordinances regulates skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, scooters and similar devices citywide. Riders must exercise due care and avoid reckless operation, and on streets must travel as far right as possible, single file and with traffic. Riding is limited to daylight hours unless the rider wears reflective clothing or strips visible from 500 feet at night. Attaching oneself to a moving vehicle is banned outright.

Two named zones are off-limits entirely. The 'business district' is defined as the area bounded by Walters Street, Mill Street, Charles Street and Elm Street, plus the area bounded by Charles Street, Church Street, Herod Street and Main Street. The 'Hospital District' covers the Medical Center of Lewisville area bounded by West Main Street, South Edna Street, West Elm Street and the northbound service road of Interstate 35E. Operating any covered device in either zone is unlawful regardless of skill or caution.

Riding on private property requires the owner's, agent's or other authorized person's permission first. In parks and recreational areas the city manager or a designee may post uniform signs prohibiting the devices, and riding in violation of a posted sign is an offense. On city-owned steps, walls, railings, courtyards, concession areas, pavilions, restroom areas, covered structures, park benches, picnic tables, or within the property line of any city-owned building, riding is banned outright, sign or no sign.

Parents and guardians may not authorize or knowingly permit a child or ward to violate the section, exposing them to their own citation. Lewisville police officers, and in parks the park director or a designee, are authorized to issue citations directly under Sec. 8-3(f).
