Vestavia Hills, AL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Vestavia Hills' only skateboarding rule is written into the individual rules section of each city park rather than into a citywide traffic or business-district ordinance. Wald Park's Sec. 12-1(a)(5) bars skates, rollerblades, ripsticks, bicycles, go-carts, scooters, motorcycles, four-wheelers, three-wheelers, skateboards, or any other type of vehicle, except for service vehicles, from operating anywhere in the park off the designated parking area at any time. The identical language, naming skateboards specifically, repeats in Sec. 12-2(a)(5) for Liberty Park Sports Complex, Sec. 12-4(b)(5) for Cahaba Heights Park, Sec.

12-5(a)(5) for Byrd Park, Sec. 12-6(a)(5) for Shallowford Park, Sec. 12-7(b)(5) for SHAC and Sec. 12-8(b)(5) for Meadowlawn Park. McCallum Park and Altadena Valley Park ban go-carts, scooters, motorcycles, four-wheelers, three-wheelers, or any other type of vehicle from leaving the parking area but do not name skateboards individually in their own sections. In practical terms the rule functions as a full skateboarding ban across ball fields, courts, trails and pavilions at those seven parks, since a skateboard cannot be lawfully ridden anywhere except the parking lot itself.

Violating the restriction carries the same penalty attached to every other park rule: a misdemeanor conviction under Code of Ala. 1975 § 11-45-9, with each day of a continuing violation treated as a separate offense, plus removal from the premises by park staff or police.
