Ogden, UT Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Ogden City Code Section 12-8-1, Purpose; Conditions Constituting Nuisance, states the chapter exists so the city can remove or abate garbage, refuse, or unsightly or deleterious objects and structures under its general nuisance-abatement power and Utah Code Annotated title 10, chapter 11, and lists preventing insect and rodent harborages as one of the chapter's express purposes. " Enforcement runs through an inspector appointed under Section 12-8-2, who under Section 12-8-3 must serve written notice giving the owner or occupant at least 10 days to abate before the city can act, coordinating with the Weber County health department on health-related nuisances.

An owner can request a hearing before the mayor or a designated hearing officer under Section 12-8-5 within 10 days of the notice. If the owner never abates, Section 12-8-11 makes both causing the nuisance and failing to abate it unlawful, a class B misdemeanor with each day of continuation a separate offense, and layers on civil penalties: $125 for a first failure to abate, $250 for a second within the same season or calendar year, and $500 for a third or for any repeat of the same violation type on the same property from the prior year.
