Lenexa, KS Short-Term Rentals: Short-Term Rental Parking Rules (2026)

Section 2-16-A-7-B of the Lenexa Code puts two parking duties on licensed short term rentals, meaning dwellings rented for a period under 30 days. First, the rental dwelling and its occupants must comply with all parking restrictions in Chapter 3-8 of the City Code. Second, if the rental dwelling has off-street parking, the owner shall require occupants to use it. The second duty is the owner's, so a host cannot point to a guest's choice to park on the street when a driveway or garage is available. The practical step is to put the off-street rule in the booking terms and house instructions.

Chapter 3-8 supplies the substance. Section 3-8-B-2 bars parking on any grass, vegetated area or yard area unless the City authorizes it, bars parking on a sidewalk or designated bicycle path, and bars parking within 5 feet of a street side mailbox between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. except Sundays and holidays. A vehicle cannot sit on a public street or public property continuously for more than 48 hours unless posted otherwise, and moving it a short distance does not reset the clock. The same section prohibits using a vehicle as living quarters, so a guest cannot sleep in a camper or van parked at the rental. Commercial vehicles are limited to two consecutive hours in a residential zoning district, with listed exceptions for emergencies and active loading.

Parking is also tied to the license itself. Section 2-16-A-6 requires the rental dwelling and surrounding premises to stay in compliance with all applicable City Codes to hold the license, and Section 2-16-A-12 lets the City revoke a license when an owner fails to comply with any requirement of the Article.
